My Sweater Obsession

Oversized sweaters in the winter are like bathing suits at a pool party—everyone needs one. However, they are most often traded out for something fitted like a blouse when dressing because people tend to feel undone or too comfortable in relaxed-fit attire.

This got us thinking, how do we dress a cozy sweater to completely avoid feeling sluggish while creating a complete look? How do you make a cozy sweater work all week long?

There are three things to consider when it comes to sweaters—color, texture and fit:

Color: Keeping the color scheme neutral with hues like tan and grey, as well as opting for muted tones of blush and champagne, will result in a top that’s suitable for all occasions. Accessories such as statement necklaces or chandelier earrings allow for versatility, creating a stylish and sophisticated look in the office or on the weekend.

Texture: Nobody likes an itchy sweater. Consider relaxed fabric instead of restrictive this time around. Soft blends of fuzzy cotton, wool, knit ribbed or waffle in any style from cropped to bell sleeve or off the shoulder is always a good go-to. Fabrics like acrylic and nylon are often affordable and easy to care for—perfect for saving a mid-week trip to the dry cleaners!

Style & Fit: Sweaters work with just about any bottom. An oversized turtleneck sweater with skinny ankle dress pants is a fashionable way to kick the cold while at work. It can also create a classic look with skinny jeans and a thin statement belt—tuck the front in for a fashion forward, yet simple look that’s useful from anything from meetings to catching up with friends. Oversized sweaters also pair well with leggings and thigh high boots for a night out! Last but not least, an oversized sweater even looks cute mixed with boyfriend jeans and is a quality choice for Sunday’s coffee run.

Warm outfits in the winter should not be compromised. Now that we’ve covered a bit about how to shop for oversized and relaxed-fit sweaters, feel free to dress them up or down according to plan without fear of looking like you just rolled out of bed. Remember, accessories are friends! Statement jewelry is a great addition to any neutral colored or simple ensemble as they add the finishing touch to any look.
